SUMMARY:Critical Masculinity reading group - May
DESCRIPTION:On April 28th\, we will host the next session of our Critical Masculinity Reading Group. \n\n\n\nWhile we normally like to meet in person at the aequa Community Centre in Wedding\, due to social distancing rules we’re hosting our meetings online for the time being. Please register at the link below before 18:30 if you want to join us. We will e-mail you the login around 15-30 minutes before the meeting starts\, so keep in mind to check your inbox. https://airtable.com/shr57PTnic2g9Ylot \n\n\n\nAt our next meeting\, we will be discussing Jared Sexton’s book ‘The Man They Wanted Me To Be’. We will finish the last 3 chapters of the Jared Sexton book in this session (chapter 13-15)\, but don’t worry if you haven’t read that much (or any) of the book\, you’ll still be welcome in the discussion. \n\n\n\nThe discussion will be in English. Please let us know if you have any needs in regards to the accessibility of the book. We’re glad to help! \n\n\n\n__ \n\n\n\nEvent info from the organisers: \n\n\n\nIn this group\, we want to reflect on the social construction of masculinity\, and how it can be improved. We want to create a space to reflect on our experiences of our own masculinity. \n\n\n\nMasculinity is a complex concept with a huge influence on people’s lives. It affects identities\, relationships\, mental health and overall wellbeing. One’s masculinity can be harmful to others\, becoming a source of oppression\, aggression and bullying. It can also be harmful to the masculine individual themself\, limiting their emotional development and ability to properly connect with the people they care about. Critically reflecting on one’s masculinity can help reduce the damage this social construct inflicts\, while also paving a way toward greater happiness and self-realisation. \n\n\n\nThere are people who grapple with their own masculinity and who ask themselves what being masculine means for them. Looking for answers on the internet\, one easily encounters movements such as the “manosphere” or “red pill\,” which promote misogyny and are breeding grounds for the alt-right. Their terms\, such as “beta male\,” have become part of everyday language. We don’t want to give these groups the power to promote their harmful interpretation of masculinity. We see the Critical Masculinity Reading Group as an opportunity to build and promote a positive\, 21st century interpretation of masculinity through our discussions. \n\n\n\nWith this group\, we are trying out something we haven’t done before. It’s our first experience running a group like this and we rely on your help\, mindset and input. \n\n\n\n__ \n\n\n\nIn our first meeting\, we made a decision together that we will not tolerate racism\, cis-sexism\, ableism\, ageism\, classism\, homophobia\, transphobia\, xenophobia or other hateful opinions or behaviours. We avoid making assumptions about others in the group and while sharing our experiences we strive to respond with care and empathy.

SUMMARY:Beyond Visibility 2021
DESCRIPTION:31st March\, Noon (CST)\, 6pm (GMT/UK)\, 7pm (CEST/Germany)\, \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSign up here to receive a zoom invitation. \n\n\n\nSometimes visibility isn’t enough. During these intense times\, solidarity has never been more important. For this Trans Day of Visibility\, Kes Otter Lieffe and aequa are organising a solidarity event to write to trans folk in prisons. \n\n\n\nWhile many people on the outside are beginning to understand what isolation means\, incarcerated trans people know it all too well and receiving letters and cards can be a lifeline to a caring community. \n\n\n\n>>The session will be online and in English.<< \n\n\n\nWe’ll hear some short presentations from prisoner solidarity organisations\, then we can write our letters and cards separately – but also together\, gathered in a cozy\, online space – and send them off. \n\n\n\nWe’ll provide you with addresses to post them to in the UK and possibly the US and other places*. We’ll also give some considerations for writing/posting safely during the pandemic. \n\n\n\nDon’t worry if you’ve never written to someone in prison before\, we’ll give you some tips and starters! \n\n\n\n_ _ _ _ \n\n\n\nThis event is hosted by: \n\n\n\naequa (a community for social equity working on mutual support\, collective empowerment and collaborative action in Berlin\, Germany ) \n\n\n\nKes Otter Lieffe (trans feminist author and organiser) \n\n\n\n_ _ _ _ \n\n\n\nin collaboration with: \n\n\n\nBooks Beyond Bars UK\, a collective of volunteers who send books and other educational materials\, free of charge\, to incarcerated LGBTQIA+ people across the United Kingdom. \n\n\n\nLGBT Books to Prisoners (A trans-affirming\, racial justice-focused\, prison abolitionist project sending books to incarcerated LGBTQ-identified people across the United States) \n\n\n\nSolidarity Apothecary (UK herbal apothecary materially supporting revolutionary struggles and communities with plant medicines) \n\n\n\n_ _ _ _ \n\n\n\n*We’ll update this description as we confirm other participants and details.

SUMMARY:Freelance Peer Support Group - Get Great Clients
DESCRIPTION:Deutsch unten // \n\n\n\nSIGN UP: https://airtable.com/shrD5klWEb8MX9Cce \n\n\n\nJoin us for our PILOT evening for a Freelance Peer Support Group! As our first topic we will be looking at how to land new clients as a freelancer and any blocks we might be facing on the way there. \n\n\n\nThis workshop will be held in English. \n\n\n\n============================WHAT IS A PEER SUPPORT GROUP?============================ \n\n\n\nPSGs are a chance for a group of individuals with a common trait (in this case being freelance or self-employed) to collaborate to solve common problems. We will be able to voice our current challenges\, and then be giving each other feedback\, advice and ideas to help us conquer them. This is a great opportunity to share your knowledge and expertise if you’ve been in the freelance game for a while\, or of course for people starting out and looking to grow a client base to get work from. \n\n\n\nFor now\, this is a one-time pilot event. If we enjoy and learn from it and\, most importantly\, feel that these discussions add value to our freelancer life\, then further sessions on different topics can be added in the future. \n\n\n\n============================HOW IT WORKS============================ \n\n\n\nWe’re going to be having a structured conversation led my facilitators where everyone can share either their struggles or experiences finding clients as a freelancer\, and we’ll then brainstorm some solutions to share. It’s all about finding inspiration\, sharing knowledge and taking positive action. There will be a 10-minute access break in the middle of the session. \n\n\n\n============================WHO IS THE FREELANCE PEER SUPPORT GROUP FOR?============================ \n\n\n\naequa PSGs give folks with certain affinities (for example: similar interests\, challenges or experiences) the chance to offer mutual aid in the form of peer-to-peer mentorship\, feedback\, advice and discussion. This also gives a forum to wrestle with how those with shared challenges or advantages can help to build a more equitable future for all. \n\n\n\n============================WHO CAN JOIN?============================ \n\n\n\nThe Freelance Peer Support Group is for freelancers or self-employed people\, or anyone interested in becoming so. \n\n\n\nThis meetup is for anyone with an open\, respectful\, and collaborative mindset. \n\n\n\nPrior attendance to a PSG meetup or aequa event is not required. \n\n\n\nRSVP here to join and get the Zoom link. https://airtable.com/shrD5klWEb8MX9Cce \n\n\n\n============================YOUR FACILITATORS============================ \n\n\n\nAlexandra Koken (she/her) has been working as a freelance copywriter for 1.5 years. Her favourite things about freelancing is constantly experimenting to find a sustainable and happy balance between work and life\, and her least-favourite thing about freelancing is when she’s taking notes on a call and not a single pen works. \n\n\n\nMagdalena Klein (she/her; them/they) has been freelancing in the field of market research\, communication management and marketing consulting. Her favourite thing about freelancing is variety of projects she had opportunity to work on\, while learning new things from each project. Her least favourite thing is keeping track of her expenses. \n\n\n\n============================ABOUT AEQUA============================ \n\n\n\naequa is a community for social equity — a network of people united by our shared vision of a world in which everyone can thrive. We co-create spaces for mutual support\, collective empowerment\, and collaborative action. With diverse experiences and perspectives\, we are brought together by our desire to learn\, and to share what we have learned on our individual journeys. Together\, we explore both our individual potential and our collective power. \n\n\n\n======================================================== \n\n\n\nDEUTSCH \n\n\n\nFreelance Selbsthilfegruppe (Peer Support Group): Finde Kunden!

We will e-mail you the login around 15-30 minutes before the meeting starts\, so keep in mind to check your inbox. https://airtable.com/shr57PTnic2g9Ylot \n\n\n\nAt our next meeting\, we will be discussing Jared Sexton’s book ‘The Man They Wanted Me To Be’ (chapters 7-9)\, but don’t worry if you haven’t read that much (or any) of the book\, you’ll still be welcome in the discussion.

SUMMARY:Design Action Teams (Designer Peer Support Group)
DESCRIPTION:(Deutsch unten) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nENGLISH \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDesign Action Teams \n\n\n\nThursday\, February 25th 2021 \n\n\n\n7pm-8pm Berlin time (UTC+1) \n\n\n\nZoom \n\n\n\nJoin us for a special\, virtual “Action Teams” edition of aequa’s Designer Peer Support Group. This workshop will be held in English. \n\n\n\nWHAT IS AN ACTION TEAM? \n\n\n\nAction Teams is a give-get exchange with a small team of participants. You give your feedback\, advice\, and ideas to help others break through current challenges. In exchange\, they help you break through your blocks\, too. Maybe you’re wondering how to polish your portfolio\, find the freelance gigs you want\, you need new sources of inspiration\, want to get feedback on your designs\, or you want to learn how to animate—every challenge you can think of is fair game to present to your Action Team. Prior attendance of a Designer Peer Support Group meetup or aequa event is not required. \n\n\n\nRSVP here to join and get the Zoom link \n\n\n\nHOW IT WORKS \n\n\n\nEach participant will summarise their personal design-related challenge to the group in a timed session. Then your Action Team will have time to share their solutions\, ideas\, tips\, resources or other gifts to help you face your challenge. It’s about accountability\, inspiration\, connection and—of course—action! \n\n\n\nWHO IS THE DESIGN PEER SUPPORT GROUP FOR? \n\n\n\nThe Designer Peer Support Group is for Graphic Designers\, Art Directors\, UX/Product Designers & Researchers\, Illustrators\, or anyone adjacent to or interested in those fields. aequa Peer Support Groups give folks with certain affinities (for example: similar interests\, challenges or experiences) the chance to offer mutual support in the form of peer-to-peer mentorship\, feedback\, advice and discussion. This also gives a forum to wrestle with how those with shared challenges or advantages can help to build a more equitable future for all. This will be the 3rd meeting of the Designer’s Peer Support Group\, held in English only for now. In July’s kickoff meeting we discussed shared challenges. In September\, we discussed ways to find inspiration. New people are of course welcome. \n\n\n\nWHO CAN JOIN? \n\n\n\nThis meetup is for anyone with an open\, respectful\, and collaborative mindset.Prior attendance to a design meetup or aequa event is not required. \n\n\n\nRSVP here to join and get the Zoom link \n\n\n\nABOUT AEQUA \n\n\n\naequa is a community for social equity. Our vision is an equitable society in which every person can thrive. Our purpose is to activate\, empower and connect a diverse\, intersectional community — and to do so sustainably. We do that by hosting gatherings for folks to exchange resources\, tackle shared challenges\, and collaborate to create the world we dream of. Together\, we explore both our individual potential and our collective power. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDEUTSCH \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDesign Action Teams \n\n\n\nDonnerstag 25 Februar 2021 \n\n\n\n19:00-20:00 Berlin (UTC+1) \n\n\n\nZoom \n\n\n\nNehmen Sie an einer speziellen\, virtuellen “Action Teams”-Ausgabe der aequa Designer Peer Support Group teil.Dieser Workshop wird in englischer Sprache abgehalten. \n\n\n\nWAS IST EIN ACTIONSTEAM?

SUMMARY:MOSAIC: Illustrations and conversations on the relationships between future\, ritual and memory
DESCRIPTION:GET YOUR TICKET (From zero to 15 EUR – pay what you can) \n\n\n\nMOSAIC is an exhibition exploring the meanings of — and relationships between — memory\, ritual and future\, featuring original works of illustration by 18 BIPOC\, migrant and diasporic artists. The collection has been curated by OUSA Collective for permanent display at the aequa Community Centre in Wedding. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn Berlin\, a city of transplants\, it can be hard for those of us with roots sprouted elsewhere to feel belonging. Sometimes that feeling springs from shared memories\, from our shared sensory connections to histories or cultures we have come from. Sometimes it appears in shared rituals of celebration\, spirituality\, healing and commemoration. Often\, despite our differences of experience\, it’s our dreams of a shared future that bind us. \n\n\n\nShared space can be critical to discovering these connections. Spaces in which we can be our most authentic selves offer us a sanctuary — places to recharge from a world that so often drains us. There\, we can explore the relationship between ourselves as singular individuals and our roles as pieces of a complex\, constantly-expanding composite — a mosaic of our experiences and perspectives. \n\n\n\nJoin us on Sunday\, January 24th for MOSAIC\, a digital vernissage\, including introductions of the works by the artists themselves\, as well as community discussions\, workshops and a musical performance around the themes that inspired these works. Like most aequa gatherings\, this one will be grounded in conversation\, so please join us to add pieces of your story to the picture\, too. \n\n\n\nFeatured illustrations from: \n\n\n\nAlexis Jang \n\n\n\nAna Filipa Maceira \n\n\n\nAude Nasr \n\n\n\nBilge Emir \n\n\n\nChiny Udeani \n\n\n\nChristina S. SUMMARY:Discussion Circle: Me & White Supremacy Workbook
DESCRIPTION:[doors open at 6.15\, event starts at 6.30]\n\n\n\nIf you are someone who might benefit from white privilege — if you’re not sure\, this might be a good way to find out — we encourage you to take the month of June to read and reflect on the prompts of Layla F. Saad’s “Me & White Supremacy” and explore the ways in which whiteness plays out in your own life. \n\n\n\nSIGNUP HERE: https://airtable.com/shr8ur6lnxwkRUa2i \n\n\n\nFrom the book’s website: “*Me and White Supremacy: A 28-Day Challenge to Combat Racism\, Change the World\, and Become a Good Ancestor* leads readers through a journey of understanding their white privilege and participation in white supremacy\, so that they can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on black\, indigenous and people of color\, and in turn\, help other white people do better\, too. The book goes beyond the original workbook by adding more historical and cultural contexts\, sharing moving stories and anecdotes\, and includes expanded definitions\, examples\, and further resources.” \n\n\n\nThis group will give folks who have COMPLETED the workbook a place to discuss what they learned over the course of that month\, talk about next steps and share their action and accountability plan. The discussion will be held in English. \n\n\n\nThe workshop will be held in English online and limited to 20 participants. \n\n\n\nMUTUAL RESPECT at aequa eventshttps://aequa.cc/mutual-respect/

SUMMARY:Critical Masculinity Reading Group #05
DESCRIPTION:This Wednesday we’re hosting the next edition of our Critical Masculinity Reading Group. While we normally like to meet in person at the aequa Community Centre in Wedding\, due to social distancing rules we’re hosting our meetings online for the time being. Please contact hello@aequa.cc before 18:30 on November 25th if you want the link to join us. The discussion will be in English. \n\n\n\nThis week\, we’ll be discussing the second half of JJ Bola’s “Mask Off: Masculinity Redefined.” Let us know if you’re interested in joining but need help getting the text.__ \n\n\n\nEvent info from the organisers: \n\n\n\nIn this group\, we want to reflect on the social construction of masculinity\, and how it can be improved. Critically reflecting on one’s masculinity can help reduce the damage this social construct inflicts\, while also paving a way toward greater happiness and self-realisation.There are people who grapple with their own masculinity and who ask themselves what being masculine means for them. With this group\, we are trying out something we haven’t done before. It’s our first experience running a group like this and we rely on your help\, mindset and input \n\n\n\n__ \n\n\n\nIn our first meeting\, we made a decision together that we will not tolerate racism\, cis-sexism\, ableism\, ageism\, classism\, homophobia\, transphobia\, xenophobia or other hateful opinions or behaviours. SUMMARY:Auction for aequa!
DESCRIPTION:It’s auction time! \n\n\n\n2020 has been one hell of a year to open a community centre. While we struggle with financial crisis and pandemic shut-downs\, while we work endlessly to keep our doors open\, what gives us hope is the community that is building\, maintaining and growing aequa. This project has been deeply collective from the outset and we couldn’t have made it this far without all our beautiful community members showing up every day in a thousand different ways.As we expand our call for community support with a crowdfunder (coming soon)\, we’re excited to also launch ‘Auction for aequa’\, an online auction to raise funds to keep the doors of our community centre in Wedding\, Berlin open. \n\n\n\nJoin the auction from Sunday 15th November to Sunday 29th November in this facebook group – and get ready to bid on some gorgeous community-donated items and services. You’ll find a full explanation of how the auction works in the group. \n\n\n\nIf you’d like to donate items or services to the auction\, fill in this form and we’ll add your item to the auction.Thank you as always for all your community spirit. We’re so grateful to be in this adventure with you.your aequa team

SUMMARY:Critical Masculinity Reading Group - #04
DESCRIPTION:This Wednesday we’re hosting the next edition of our Critical Masculinity Reading Group. While we normally like to meet in person at the aequa Community Centre in Wedding\, due to social distancing rules we’re hosting our meetings online for the time being. Please contact hello@aequa.cc before 18:30 on November 10th if you want the link to join us. The discussion will be in English. \n\n\n\nThis week\, we’ll be discussing the first half of JJ Bola’s “Mask Off: Masculinity Redefined.” Let us know if you’re interested in joining but need help getting the text. \n\n\n\n__ \n\n\n\nEvent info from the organisers: \n\n\n\nIn this group\, we want to reflect on the social construction of masculinity\, and how it can be improved. We want to create a space to reflect on our experiences of our own masculinity.Masculinity is a complex concept with a huge influence on people’s lives. Critically reflecting on one’s masculinity can help reduce the damage this social construct inflicts\, while also paving a way toward greater happiness and self-realisation.There are people who grapple with their own masculinity and who ask themselves what being masculine means for them. With this group\, we are trying out something we haven’t done before. If you can\, please consider supporting aequa on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/aequa

SUMMARY:Equity Reading Circle - poetry edition
DESCRIPTION:You can join this meetup in person or via online video. The Equity Reading Circle is a reading\, discussion and action group focused on readings about or related to intersectional feminism\, equality/equity\, diversity\, inclusion\, and/or readings from authors from minority\, marginalised or underrepresented groups. \n\n\n\nWe meet every other Wednesday evening at aequa CC in Wedding. The circle is open to everyone who has an open\, collaborative and respectful mindset. The discussions take place in English. \n\n\n\nSince Wednesday\, October 14\, we decided as a group that we would like to focus on quarter on co-reading poetry on these topics. In particular\, we will take our time together to read from Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan’s Postcolonial Banter poetry collection. You can buy the ebook here or watch the author performing many of the poems online. The idea is that each meeting\, someone else will “host” by sharing a poem or poems of their choice\, which the group can then discuss. As previously\, we will adopt some methods of The Circle Way\, to try to share the work of organising this meetup. \n\n\n\nEmail hello [at] aequa.cc if you’d like us to already add your email to the calendar invite.

SUMMARY:The Left and the US Presidential Election
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: only a very limited number of places are available at aequa\, but this meeting will be livestreamed \n\n\n\nJoint meeting with DSA Berlin. The Left is offered two unappealing choices in the upcoming US Presidential election: a right-wing authoritarian in Trump and a centrist Democrat in Biden. Is removing Trump from office the primary political imperative? Or should Biden’s record—supporting austerity\, overseas interventions\, and refusing to ban fracking—rule out any left-wing support for him? This meeting will examine the dilemma facing socialists in November\, discuss arguments in favor and against each option\, and explore alternate forms of political action to fight for progressive change after the election. This meeting will be livestreamed\, and there is limited opportunity to view the meeting live. Please send an e-mail to lag.internationals@die-linke-berlin.de for information about coming to the live event. \n\n\n\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/998580087322384/
